  • The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project, Initiative II (ISLSCP II) is a follow on project from The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP). ISLSCP II had the lead role in addressing land-atmosphere interactions - process modelling, data retrieval algorithms, field experiment design and execution, and the development of global data sets. The ISLSCP II dataset contains comprehensive data over the 10 year period from 1986 to 1995, from the International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP). This dataset contains: * Land Outline Data * Land/Water and Land/Sea Masks * Latitude & Longitude Grid Coordinate Data The data are mapped to consistent grids (0.5 x 0.5 degrees for topography, 1 x 1 degrees for meteorological parameters). Some data have a grid size of 0.25 x 0.25 degrees. The temporal resolution for most data sets is monthly (however a few are at finer resolution - 3 hourly). This dataset is public.

  • Land Surface Temperature (LST) Level 3 gridded data products (UOL_LST_3P) from the Advanced Along Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) produced by the University of Leicester. The data consists of global gridded Level 3 product at a pre-defined set of spatial and temporal resolutions. The product provide AATSR-derived land surface temperature data and its associated uncertainty, as wall as additional auxiliary information. The gridded level 3 product has been derived from the 1km Level-2 AATSR Version 3 LST product (UOL_LST_2P). The Level 3 gridded product was produced under funding from the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO).

  • Land Surface Temperature (LST) Level 2 data products (UOL_LST_2P) from the Advanced Along Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) produced by the University of Leicester. The data consists of a Level 2 1km resolution AATSR-orbit based product at a pre-defined set of spatial and temporal resolutions. The product provide AATSR-derived land surface temperature data and its associated uncertainty, as wall as additional auxiliary information. Level 2 products were produced under contract to the European Space Agency and constitute part of the official (A)ATSR multimission product from version 3 of that dataset. Funding from NERC and the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) also helped in the development of this product and enabled the production of the derived Level 3 products.   • GICE (Global sea-Ice) is a gridded dataset of sea-ice coverage fractions covering the period 1856-February 2003. The current version of the dataset is GICE23b. GISST/GICE was originally developed as an extention to MOHSST that provided a globally complete SST analysis and sea-ice data. This is required to drive atmospheric general circulation models. GISST/GICE has now been superceeded by HadISST. We now recommend use of HadISST instead of GISST/GICE for all purposes. GICE is only still available in case it is needed for direct comparison with earlier work where GICE was used. GICE is no longer updated or developed. The sea-ice component of GISST (GICE) contains known inhomogeneities, especially in the antarctic. GISST should not be used for studies of sea-ice variability. GISST sea-ice fractions are based on a mixture of charts, satellite observations and statistical interpolations. The current version of the dataset is GICE 2.3B which was provided by the Met Office.

GISST is only still available in case it is needed for direct comparison with earlier work where GISST was used. GISST is no longer updated or developed. GISST SSTs are based on the in-situ data set MOHSST, infilled using Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) interpolation. The current version of the dataset is GISST 2.3B which was provided by the Met Office Hadley Centre.
