  • The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project, Initiative II (ISLSCP II) is a follow on project from The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP). ISLSCP II had the lead role in addressing land-atmosphere interactions - process modelling, data retrieval algorithms, field experiment design and execution, and the development of global data sets. The ISLSCP II dataset contains comprehensive data over the 10 year period from 1986 to 1995, from the International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP). This dataset contains: *precipitation *temperature *diurnal temperature range *wet-day frequency *vapour pressure *cloud cover *ground frost frequency The data are mapped to consistent grids (0.5 x 0.5 degrees for topography, 1 x 1 degrees for meteorological parameters). Some data have a grid size of 0.25 x 0.25 degrees. The temporal resolution for most data sets is monthly (however a few are at finer resolution - 3 hourly). This dataset is public.

  • The African Easterly Jet (AEJ) is part of a climatic system which is of critical importance to African and global weather and climate, but is poorly observed and not well represented in model analyses. For the JET2000 project the Met Office Met Research flight (MRF) aircraft performed four flights, involving transects along and across the jet and the baroclinic zone, to make observations of unprecedented resolution for this part of the world. 110 dropsondes were dropped along the fight path. The data includes detailed synoptic observations of the basic state over mainland West Africa, and detailed synoptic observations of the African Easterly Waves (AEW) over mainland tropical West Africa.

  • The Fourier-Adjusted, Sensor and Solar zenith angle corrected, Interpolated, Reconstructed (FASIR) adjusted Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) dataset was detected with the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) on-board the MetOp satellites. Derived biophysical parameter fields were generated to provide a 17-year satellite record of monthly changes in the photosynthetic activity of terrestrial vegetation. This dataset was produced and provided by Dr. Sietse Los from the Department of Geography, University of Wales at Swansea.

  • This dataset provides Gravimetric Mass Balance Basin data for the Antarctic Ice Sheet. It has been produced in the framework of the Antarctic Ice Sheets Climate Change Initiative (CCI) project, under the lead of TU Dresden. The ice sheet mass balance, i.e. the change in ice mass over time, is determined using the US-German satellite gravimetry mission GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment). The Antarctic Ice Sheet CCI GMB products are based on the monthly GRACE solutions ITSG-Grace2016 by Technische Universität Graz, and comprises a time series of mass change grids covering the entire ice sheet (GMB Gridded product), along side mass change time series for different drainage basins (GMB Basin Product). The dataset described here covers version 1.1 of the Basin product. Mass change time series are provided for a number of drainage basins. They describe the evolution of ice mass relative to a modelled reference value, defined to be the GRACE-derived mass as of 2009-01-01. Respective time series are also derived for the total areas of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, the Antarctic Peninsula and the Antarctic Ice Sheet as a whole. • This dataset contains standard meteorological data and soil moisture estimates from cosmic-ray neutron sensors taken from Sheepdrove Farm stations (2015-2018). This data was collected as part of the NERC project A MUlti-scale Soil moisture-Evapotranspiration Dynamics study (AMUSED), which aimed to identify the spatial/temporal scale-dependency of key dominant processes that control changes in soil moisture and land-atmosphere interactions.
