  • This dataset contains calculated terrestrial fluxes of methane and nitrous oxide using static chambers from the Sodankylä region of Northern Finland across both forest and wetland ecosystems. Measurements were carried out during growing season 2012 in two measurement campaigns (Summer: 12th July - 2nd August; Autumn: 22nd September - 14th October) using 60 static chambers (21 within the forest and 39 within the wetland). Fluxes were measured on approximately 2 day intervals resulting in a total of 10 measurements for all chambers during the summer campaign, and 7 for the forest and 8 for the wetland chambers during the autumn campaign. In addition to fluxes, auxiliary measurements include soil temperature, water table depth (wetland only), soil moisture (forest only) and soil respiration. The data was collected as part of the MAMM project (Methane and other greenhouse gases in the Arctic: Measurements, process studies and Modelling, http://arp.arctic.ac.uk/projects/) funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (grant NE/I029293/1) involving partners from CEH and the Finnish Meteorological Institute (Climate Change Research, FI-00101 Helsinki, Finland).   • This dataset comprises forest stand and species occurrence data for a selection of non-native species collected in the UK Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) of Cyprus in October 2015 and March 2017, with a particular focus on the area surrounding Lake Akrotiri in the Western SBA. The main focus for mapping was stands of Acacia saligna, Casuarina cunninghamiana, the eucalypts Eucalyptus camaldulensis and E. gomphocephala, and the forb Symphyotrichum squamatum. The typical accuracy of data capture was around 10-15 m precision, varying according to the presence of forest canopy.   • The dataset comprises of physical property and biogeochemical measurements of saltmarsh soil collected using the hammer coring technique from the Kyle of Tongue saltmarsh in the North of Scotland. The site was chosen to represent northern, loch head marshes and to test different coring techniques in organic rich soils. The data provides a quantitative measure of the dry bulk density, water content, porosity and organic carbon content present within the soils of the Kyle of Tongue saltmarsh. A total of 4 cores were collected, 39 samples were collected at 10cm intervals down the length of each core. The samples were processed for bulk density, water content, porosity and organic carbon content which was quantified through elemental analysis. The data were collected to help create a detailed picture of saltmarsh carbon storage in the soils of UK saltmarsh and test different coring approaches. The cores were collected by the data authors in November 2018.   • [This dataset is embargoed until December 15, 2022]. The dataset comprises of biogeochemical measurements of saltmarsh soil collected from 46 salt marshes across Scotland. Sites were chosen to represent contrasting habitats across Scotland, in particular sediment types, vegetation and sea level history. The data provide a quantitative measure of the dry bulk density, soil texture, organic matter content (LOI) and organic carbon present within surface soils (up to a depth of 10 cm). A total of 471 samples were collected, 157 of the samples were collected using modified syringe samplers as part of the citizen scientist programme CarbonQuest (Part of C-SIDE) these were supplemented by a further 109 samples from the C-SIDE team. The remaining 205 samples were collected using a soil corer (Gouge) as part of the C-SIDE sampling programme. The samples were processed for bulk density, soil texture, organic matter content using the Loss on Ignition (LOI) method and the organic carbon was quantified through elemental analysis. The data were collected to help create a detailed picture of saltmarsh carbon storage across Scotland.
