  • This dataset contains soil respiration data from the Climoor fieldsite in Clocaenog forest, north-east Wales. Measurements began in March 1999 at the field site, and were repeated in approximately bi-weekly intervals until June 2015 (although there are some larger gaps for technical or logistical reasons in this 14 year dataset). The data were collected using 3 different methods/machines over the years: static chambers, soil respiration chamber and Environmental Gas Monitor (EGM)-4 (from PP Systems), and soil respiration chamber and Automated Soil Gas Flux System Li8100 (from Licor Biosciences). The method used is detailed in the data and described further in the supporting documentation. Data was collected by CEH staff and PhD students trained in the use of the different methods / machines. Climoor is a climate change manipulation experiment that utilises automated roof technology to produce drought and warming experimental treatments that reflect climate change predictions for the next 20-30 years. • [THIS DATASET HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN]. This dataset includes rainfall data from a ground level rain gauge as well as from basic storage rain gauges within the experimental plots in the Climoor field site in the Clocaenog Forest. Data includes volume of rainfall at both site and plot level, and rainfall chemistry (site level) from 1999-2012. Determinands include: Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Aluminium (Al), PO4-P, Chlorine (Cl), Phosphorus (P), Nitogen (N), Ammonium Nitrogen (NH4-N), Nitrate Nitrogen (NO3-N), Sulphate (SO4), dissolved organic Carbon (DOC) and pH for 1999-2002; and NH4-N, NO3-N, SO4, DOC and pH for 2002-2012. • [THIS DATASET HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN]. This dataset includes litterfall data from the experimental plots at the Climoor field site in the Clocaenog forest, NE Wales. Litterfall (natural senesced plant material) was collected in litterfall traps (12 x 7.5cm pots standing slightly proud of the soil/litter surface, emptied monthly). Litterfall was calculated by drying the contents of the traps and weighing the samples; values were calculated for each quadrat (total weight (g) only) and for each plot (total weight (g) and weight per metre squared (g/m2)). Data spans the periods Oct 1999 to Jan 2004 and July 2008 to June 2011. Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/dd4dfc72-dafe-44a2-af2b-0118d949d7ad

  • [THIS DATASET HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN]. This dataset contains hourly micro-meteorological data from the experimental plots at the Climoor field site in Clocaenog forest, NE Wales. It runs from 11/9/2008 until 31/12/2013, and contains air temperature, soil temperature at two depths (5cm and 20cm) as well as soil moisture. Climoor is a climate change experiment which investigates the possible impact of increased temperatures and repeated summer drought on an Atlantic upland moorland. The experiment uses automatic roof technology to warm experimental plots by 0.5 - 1 degC and reproduces drought conditions in other experimental plots (July to September annually). In 2014, the Climoor experiment was the second longest running climate change experiment in the UK and data from the experiment has been used in several modelling exercises. The site was originally established under a EU consortium project - called CLIMOOR - where replica manipulation experiments were built in six European countries. As well as our site in North-East Wales (United Kingdom), there are identical sites in Denmark, the Netherlands, Sardinia (Italy) and Hungary. There was also a site in Catalonia (Spain). • [THIS DATASET HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN]. This dataset contains daily automated weather station (AWS) data from the Climoor field site in Clocaenog forest, NE Wales. It runs from 12/6/1999 until 31/12/2013, and contains air temperature (mean, minimum and maximum), rainfall, net radiation, solar radiation, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), wind speed and direction. The dataset has been quality checked, and incorrect or missing values removed, data has not been infilled. • [THIS DATASET HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN]. This dataset includes data on the degree of herbivory and infection of the fungal pathogen, Valdensia heterodoxa, on the deciduous shrub Vaccinium myrtillus in the experiment plots at the Climoor field site in the Clocaenog Forest, NE Wales. Herbivory was measured in the summer of 2000, 2005 (control and drought plots only) and 2006. Fungal infection was measured in 2000, 2005 (control and drought plots only) 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Measurements were taken at the same time as annual vegetative growth and flowering assessment at a time of maximal growth (late August- early September). • The dataset contains dissolved greenhouse and nutrient data collected from seven UK estuaries: the Clyde, Clywd, Conwy, Dart, Forth, Tamar and Tay, for the LOCATE project. Sampling was conducted from July 2017 to April 2018 on a quarterly basis, and was coordinated to occur on falling tides and to target specific salinities of interest: 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 25 psu. Data were obtained via collection of gas and water samples in situ, and concentrations were derived via subsequent sample processing and analysis. • The dataset contains water chemistry data collected from peatland headwaters across the Flow Country following a wildfire in May 2019. Samples were collected on a monthly basis from 52 sites across the region from September 2019 to October 2020. Sampling sites were selected to represent peatland catchments in the following conditions: burned near natural, burned drained, unburned near natural, unburned drained and unburned forested. Data were obtained via collection of water samples in situ, and concentrations were derived via subsequent sample processing and analysis.
