  • The UK Checklist of Freshwater Species is a collation of all the species (apart from algae) known to be found in association with fresh waters in the United Kingdom. The following eight major groups were identified as being associated with fresh waters in the UK: algae, amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, macrophytes, mammals and reptiles. Algae (except stoneworts) were not included in the UK Checklist of Freshwater Species as they are currently undergoing a major revision. Other microorganisms (bacteria, fungi and viruses) are also not included in this species list. The checklist was compiled to allow querying of freshwater species data in the Biological Records Centre (BRC) but to also to query freshwater species data from the BRC via the UK Lakes Portal (https://uklakes.ceh.ac.uk/), as well as to update the freshwater species list supplied to the UK Species Inventory (UKSI) partners, such as Recorder 6, National Biodiversity Network (NBN) Atlas and iRecord. • This is part of an ongoing long-term monitoring dataset of surface temperature, surface oxygen, water clarity, water chemistry and phytoplankton chlorophyll a from fortnightly sampling at the South Basin of Windermere in Cumbria, England that began in 1945 for some variables. The data have been collected by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH). The data available to download comprise surface temperature (TEMP) in degree Celsius, surface oxygen saturation (OXYG) in % air-saturation, Secchi depth (SECC) in metres, alkalinity (ALKA) in µg per litre as CaCO3 and pH. Total ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4N), total oxidised nitrogen (TON), soluble reactive phosphate (PO4P), total phosphorus (TOTP), dissolved reactive silicon expressed as SiO2 (SIO2) and phytoplankton chlorophyll a (TOCA) are all given in µg per litre. Water samples are based on a sample integrated from 0 to 7m. All data are from January 2023 until the end of 2023. • This is part of an ongoing long-term monitoring dataset of surface temperature, surface oxygen, water clarity, water chemistry and phytoplankton chlorophyll a from fortnightly sampling at Esthwaite Tarn in Cumbria, England. The data available to download comprise surface temperature (TEMP) in degree Celsius, surface oxygen saturation (OXYG) in % air-saturation, Secchi depth (SECC) in metres, alkalinity (ALKA) in µg per litre as CaCO3 and pH. Total ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4N), total oxidised nitrogen (TON), soluble reactive phosphate (PO4P), total phosphorus (TOTP), dissolved reactive silicon expressed as SiO2 (SIO2) and phytoplankton chlorophyll a (TOCA) are all given in µg per litre. Water samples are based on a sample integrated from 0 to 5 m. Water chemistry values below the detection limit, are indicated by a < sign in the column titled ‘sign(if<LOD)’. All data are from January 2023 until the end of 2023. Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/73108b81-bb17-48be-b50f-bbf47ed001ce

  • Bulk elemental (carbon and nitrogen) and stable isotope (delta 13C and delta 15N) data produced from 491 samples collected between 2016-2021 from terrestrial (soil, peat, living biomass, dead biomass), intertidal (saltmarsh vegetation, saltmarsh roots, seagrass biomass, mudflat, faecal matter) and marine (macroalgae, microalgae zooplankton, finfish aquaculture waste) environments across the UK. These samples alongside analytical standard derived from natural materials (lignin, humic acid, cellulose, glucose, protein) were analysed to determine their bulk elemental (organic carbon and nitrogen) and stable isotope (delta 13C org and delta 15N) composition. These values are envisioned to be used to constrain organic carbon sources (terrestrial vs marine) in the natural environment when used alongside isotope mixing models. The work was carried out under the NERC programme - Carbon Storage in Intertidal Environment (C-SIDE), NERC grant reference NE/R010846/1. • The dataset contains physical, chemical and biological measurements from the waters of 21 river sites across the Red River Delta in northern Vietnam. The data were collected monthly between February 2018 and January 2020. The parameters include temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH, turbidity, conductivity, total dissolved solids, dissolved nitrate, dissolved nitrite, dissolved ammonium, total nitrogen, dissolved phosphate, dissolved silicate, alkalinity, dissolved major ions (sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, chloride, sulphate) and a range of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments from riverine seston.
