  • This dataset is comprised of raw data from the NERC-funded, full waveform terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) deployed at sites on three continents, multiple countries and plot locations. Plot CBN-02 is part of the Global Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) and is located in the rainforests of Malaysian Borneo. Please note that this data is not registered and therefore there are no rotation matrices. The TLS data were collected on a 10 m x 10 m grid where at each position the scanner captured data in an upright and tilted position. The scanner was set to an angular step of 0.04 degrees for all scans. In between each scan position, a set of retro-reflective targets were positioned to be used as tie-points between scans. For more information on TLS acquisition refer to Wilkes et al. (2017). Scan data were coregistered using RiSCAN Pro, the 4x4 rotation transformation matrices to transform the point cloud data into a common reference coordinate system can be found in the "matrix" directory.

  • This data set provides above-ground carbon density derived from LiDAR data over oil palm plantations in the Stability of Altered Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project site located in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo in 2014. This includes the number of trees in plots and the average forest canopy per hectare at different heights. Data were collected during a project which was included in the NERC Human-modified tropical forest (HMTF) Programme.   • This resource comprises a time series dataset of ant and other invertebrate abundance measured fortnightly at bait monitoring cards on an experimental plot in the Maliau Basin Conservation Area, Malaysian Borneo. The resource includes data regarding the amount of food resource removed from experimental plots when either ants or vertebrates were excluded from the resource. The data were collected to assess the roles that the different groups (ants, invertebrates, vertebrates) play in ecosystem function, and the capacity for functional redundancy within and between these groups. Data were collected between 2014 and 2016 during a project run by the University of Liverpool, which was part of the NERC Human-modified tropical forest (HMTF) Programme.   • [THIS DATASET HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN]. This dataset contains information on soil microbial communities, soil physicochemical properties, forest structural and environmental characteristics across a contiguous area of forest that has undergone contrasting logging disturbance and restoration in Sabah, northern Malaysian Borneo. Sampling was conducted as part of a study investigating soil microbial community responses to either active restoration (enrichment planting) or passive restoration (natural regeneration) of selectively logged forest, relative to old-growth soil microbial communities.
