Airborne and model data collected during the ACCACIA - Aerosol-Cloud Coupling And Climate Interactions in the Arctic project. The dataset comprises airborne in situ measurements of cloud microphysical properties, the vertical structure of the boundary layer and aerosol properties, and the fluxes of solar and infra red radiation above, below, and within cloud. Data was collected on board the Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements (FAAM) BAe-146 aircraft and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) Masin aircraft. It also contains data from specially configured Met Office Unified Model runs. AMS and SP2 data measured on board the Research Ship James Clark Ross during ACCACIA is also available. This project is part of the NERC Arctic research programme. (NERC Reference: NE/I028858/1).

A TSI CPC (Condensation Particle Counter) Model 3010 was installed at Halley's Clean Air Sector Laboratory (CASLab), a mile from the station's generator, in the (austral) summer of 2019/20 and began collecting data in February as a long term dataset. The inlet is a 3m length of antistatic tubing, with a portion left untethered so that it can move with the prevailing wind. This is to prevent icing of the inlet by allowing the inlet to stay out of the direct line of any snow or ice being blown around. Any movement from the wind should allow any hoar frost that builds up to fall off. The instrument was installed by Joshua Eveson and the primary contact for the dataset is Freya Squires.

This dataset contains a subset of the ice core data for the ISOL-ICE core recovered from Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica in January 2017 (https://doi.org/10.5285/9c972cfb-0ffa-4144-a943-da6eb82431d2). The subset reported here contains ice core data from the 1455 - 1227 AD period (60.80 - 79.45 m depth) and covers the volcanic eruption of Samalas, Indonesia in 1259. The ice core was dated by annual layer counting and identifying volcanic horizons as fixed time markers. Here we report i) the age-depth model over the 1455 - 1227 AD period, ii) high-resolution nitrate stable isotopic composition of discrete ice core samples, and iii) nitrate, sodium and magnesium mass concentrations and electrolytic meltwater conductivity from continuous flow analysis (CFA). Ice Nucleating Particle concentrations were measured by exposing polycarbonate filters for 48 hours at East Beach, Rothera on the Antarctic peninsula as part of the Southern Ocean Clouds (SOC) project. The filters were stored and shipped back to the British Antarctic Survey at -20 C, where they were analysed using the offline, wash-off filter method following the Vali (1971) methodology and using a droplet freezing array set-up similar to the one described by Budke and Koop (2015). The dataset presented here is from filters which were collected between the 4th of February 2023 13:50 UTC and the 22nd of February 2023 13:50 UTC: which covers the first SOC special observing period during which aircraft measurements of clouds and aerosol were conducted around Rothera station. The Ice Nucleating Particle concentrations are used to derive a parameterisation for INP concentrations as a function of temperature which is subsequently used to investigate how processes in mixed-phase clouds (INP and droplet number concentration and the spatial distribution of liquid and ice) are represented in the Met Office Unified Model (MetUM); and the sensitivity of the MetUM to changes in these processes and resulting cloud radiative effect. The Southern Ocean Clouds was supported by NERC as part of the CloudSense Programme and it was funded by the project grant number NE/T006404/1.

This dataset contains all datasets used in Yang et al. ACP (2019), especially the model-data comparison data and pTOMCAT's model experimental results. The data include pTOMCAT model output of sea salt aerosol (SSA) and the cruise data from the Weddell Sea, they include blowing snow particles and aerosol number density and regrouped size spectrum over open ocean, marginal sea ice zone and packed sea ice. It also contains monthly sea salt aerosol sodium concentrations at eight polar sites in both northern and southern hemispheres: Alert, Barrow, Summit, Palmer, Neumayer, Halley, Kohnen and Concordia (Dome C). The Weddell Sea particle data (both blowing snow and aerosol) are from 29m above the sea level (not including near surface data). The data period only covers 13 June-26 July 2013.
