This dataset contains information about how seeds collected from Brazilian Cerrado plant species germinate in smoke water and control water solutions. Seeds were collected from site across the Cerrado between 2013 and 2020. Germination was assessed in laboratory experiments by placing seeds on wet filter paper with water and smoke water solutions. Two different methods were used. One used a commercially available smokewater, Regen 2000 and the other used smoke water produced from burning biomass collected in central Brazil. Germination was counted daily by observing emergence of radicle from the seed. The work was supported by NE/T004851/1 NERC-FAPESP Seedcorn Fund Collaboration Project "Fire-adapted seed traits in Cerrado species" between RHUL (UK) and UNESP (Brazil). This dataset contains measures of fitness traits from Eschscholzia californica progeny which were experimentally supplemented with selfed or outcrossed pollen to determine the effects of self-fertilisation on a plant which has a low propensity to self. A glasshouse experiment was conducted using 40 plants. On each plant two flowers were emasculated and the first supplemented with outcrossed pollen and the second with self-pollen. From each supplemented plant, a seed was sowed from the outcrossed fruit and from the selfed fruit. The following fitness traits were recorded; the germination rate, the duration from germination to reproductive maturity (time of first flower), together with the height (cm) and biomass (number of flowers and buds) at reproductive maturity. The dataset was part of a larger experiment looking at the effect of floral resources on the pollination services to isolated plants. These data describe the rates of filled, viable and germinating seeds from over 60 maternal juniper trees from across the UK. 12 populations from the Scottish Highlands to Southern English Downs were sampled in Fall 2023. Four different methods of seed viability testing were applied, and germination was monitored for over a year in response to nine different combinations of pretreatments and stratifications. Reproducible analyses and visualizations from an associated study are provided with an R project. This trial was conducted to determine the optimal treatment for juniper stratification and to quantify the variability in seedlot quality/viability among populations. [This nonGeographicDataset is embargoed until March 11, 2026]. This dataset contains daily germination rates of temperate tree species’ seed under elevated ozone fumigation in a closed chamber system. Daily counts of germinated sees were made. The seeds were exposed to an ambient and +60 parts per billion ozone treatment for approximately one month in the winter of 2024. Species tested were Betula pendula, Pinus sylvestris and Picea sitchensis. These data were collected to examine the possible effect of ozone on timing and percentage success of seed germination.
