[This dataset is embargoed until June 30, 2026]. The dataset provides measurements of water temperature, electrical conductivity (EC), pH and turbidity from rivers in the Peruvian Andes. Data were collected from 23 river sites in the Cordillera Vilcanota (12 sites) and Cordillera Blanca (11 sites) regions from 11/09/2019 to 18/09/2019 (Cordillera Vilcanota) from 7/05/2020 to 16/05/2020 (Cordillera Blanca). Each variable was measured once at each river site. Sites were selected along a continuum of declining glacier cover to investigate the influence of glaciers on river habitats. [This dataset is embargoed until August 30, 2027]. This dataset contains information about soil biogeochemical parameters from a lab manipulation experiment that was part of a study testing freeze-thaw and drought effects on alpine soil microbial communities and biogeochemistry. The soil was collected from Vent, Austria in March 2021. It was then shipped to the Soil and Ecosystem Ecology Lab at the University of Manchester, where the experiment was conducted in April - August 2021. Various soil biogeochemical properties were measured on destructively harvested samples at five experimental timepoints. The soil samples had been subjected to different treatment combinations throughout the experiment (see lineage for details). For details on each parameter, see the supporting documentation. Data comprise soil microbial and biogeochemical data collected during a climate and vegetation change experiment conducted across three valleys in Tyrol, in the Austrian Alps. Sites were located near the villages of Obergurgl (lat., long. = 46.844833, 11.023783; mean elevation = 2279m), Soelden (46.978367, 10.972217, mean elevation = 2469m) and Vent (46.863217, 10.896800, mean elevation = 2472m). Soil microbial data include phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analyses, and bacterial (16S Small subunit ribosomal RNA) and fungal (internal transcribed spacer region 2) high throughput sequences. Soil biogeochemical data include soil extracellular enzyme activities, soil pH, gravimetric moisture content and various C and N pools and fluxes. The experiment was funded by NERC project NE/N009452/1. Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/977c422d-8529-432d-85d7-5de3c8dfdc5d
