Access to data must be approved by the Coal Authority mining licensing department. Where data fall within an extant mining licence the permission of the licensee must be obtained. Through the standard BGS Data User Agreement procedure. A data usage fee is payable.

The copyright of materials derived from the British Geological Survey's work is vested in the Natural Environment Research Council [NERC].
