Data from "The impact of climate change on the North Atlantic and European storm-track and blocking" project was a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) RAPID Climate Change Research Programme project (Round 2 - NE/C509115/1 - Duration 14 Mar 2005 - 13 Mar 2008) led by Prof Sir Brian Hoskins of Imperial College London, Grantham Institute for Climate Change, with co-investigators also at the University of Reading. This dataset collection contains Unified Model climate temperature and humidity outputs from model run xctf. Rapid Climate Change (RAPID) was a £20 million, six-year (2001-2007) programme for the Natural Environment Research Council. The programme aimed to improve the ability to quantify the probability and magnitude of future rapid change in climate, with a main (but not exclusive) focus on the role of the Atlantic Ocean's Thermohaline Circulation.

Cascade was a NERC funded consortium project to study organized convection and scale interactions in the tropical atmosphere using large domain cloud system resolving model simulations. This dataset contains data from the xewwa simulation which ran using the Met Office Unified Model (UM) at 12km horizontal resolution over an idealised equatorial domain of about 8000x4000km. Cascade Idealised simulations are used to study warm pool convection and equatorial waves.

DESIRE (Dynamics of the Earth System and the Ice-Core Record) was part of QUEST (Quantifying and Understanding the Earth System) Theme 2. This dataset contains measurements of sea temperature, salinity and elevation from the MITgcm (MIT General Circulation Model) model, as part of the Work Package 2.3. These experiments were conducted to investigate the role of changing the vertical tracer diffusivity on Drake Passage Transport (DPT) and the meridional overturning circulation (MOC).

"To what extent was the Little Ice Age a result of a change in the thermohaline circulation?" project. This was a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) RAPID Climate Change Research Programme project (Joint International Round - NE/C509507/1 - Duration 1 Aug 2005 - 31 Jul 2008) led by Dr Tim Osborn of the University of East Anglia, with co-investigators at the University of East Anglia and Royal Netherlands Meteorology Institute. The dataset contains fresh water hosing model output from the LOC experiment run by the HadCM3 model. The freshwater was added to the North Atlantic basin to a localised area covering parts of the GIN Sea and the Barents Sea.

This dataset contains Aerosol Optical Thickness (AOT) data, collected at Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research as part of the Network for Calibration and Validation of EO data (NCAVEO) 2006 Field Campaign. Measurements were taken every 15 minutes using a Cimel CE318-2™ sun photometer, which is part of AERONET. The Assimilation in ocean and coupled models to determine the thermohaline circulation" project was a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) RAPID Climate Change Research Programme project (Round 2 - NE/C509058/1 - Duration 1 Sep 2005 - 30 Sep 2009) led by Prof Keith Haines of the University of Reading, with co-investigators at the National Oceanography Centre. This dataset collection contains Atlantic Ocean Thermohaline Circulation ORCA025 model output.

This dataset contains output from the Met Office operational unified model (UM) in support of the Joint Airborne IASI Validation Experiment (JAIVEX). The Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) instrument was launched on the METOP satellite in October 2006 (delayed from April 2006). The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (Eumetsat) provided funds for the Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurement (FAAM) aircraft BAe146 to be involved in validation of IASI radiative transfer and some level 2 products. Flights were flown over oceans to coincide with METOP satellite overpasses. Further low level flights were flown over specific land calibration sites to characterise land surface emissivity. This dataset does not contain data collected by IASI on the Metop satellite.

A Delta-T BF2 Sunshine Sensor was used to measure the total and diffuse sky irradiance every minute from 10:30 to 13:00 hours on the 17th June 2006, as part of the Network for Calibration and Validation of EO data 2006 Field Campaign. 150 readings were produced in total. The direct energy of the sun on the instrument is calculated from the differences between the total energy and diffuse component recorded simultaneously.
