Availability of data, File format and Software Access to the UJCC data sets is available via the UJCC data browser directory . Alternatively you can ftp the data from ftp.ceda.ac.uk. UJCC is making use of a broad group of models in order to systematically explore the role and value of resolution in climate system research. All the UJCC models have as their baseline science the initial reference HadGEM1a models used at the Hadley Centre. These build on the IPCC AR4 version of the model, and include various small improvements to the science and fixing of known problems. More details of HadGEM1a can be found here (this link is restricted to those with HiGEM privileges). The UJCC data archived at the BADC are 30 year simulations from models at the following resolutions: N96 Atmosphere (1.25 lat x 1.875 lon), 1 degree ocean (HadGEM1a) N96 Atmosphere (1.25 lat x 1.875 lon), 1/3 degree ocean N144 Atmosphere (0.83 lat x 1.25 lon), 1 degree ocean N144 Atmosphere (0.83 lat x 1.25 lon), 1/3 degree ocean (HiGEM) Simulations from the Nihon-UK Global Environmental Model (NUGEM) will also be archived at the BADC. NUGEM is a version of HadGEM1a run at very high N216 resolution (0.83 lat x 0.56 lon, corresponding to ~60 km in mid-latitudes). The BADC will be archiving: NUGAM Atmosphere only version of NUGEM NUGEM Coupled atmosphere and ocean The BADC have provided a list of the simulations that make up the UJCC datset matrix in the BADC archive. A comprehensive overview of the matrix of UJCC climate models can be found here. UJCC status The current status of the UJCC dataset at the BADC can be found here. We have now launched a web page showing the status of the current UJCC-HiGEM simulation. This service displays the evolution of certain key parameters including net top of atmosphere radiation flux, global mean sea surface and surface temperature and ocean salinity. The North Atlantic Oscillation and Nino-3 indices are also shown. These plots are updated as new data from the UJCC-HiGEM simulation arrives at the BADC. Data file format All UJCC data are held as 64 bit UM pp files. Software Software is available to manipulate and view the data. xconv provides an easy to use point and click interface to the data. convsh provides a subset of the functionality of xconv, but in a scriptable form, so it can be used to automate some common data processing tasks. Jeff Cole at CGAM Reading, who developed both xconv and convsh, provides some example uses of convsh. (1)

Data availability and file format Message Tables The Met Office MetDB holds data from a variety of different message types covering observations from satellites, profiling instruments (e.g. radiosondes and wind profilers) and surface based observations (e.g land meteorological recording stations). The BADC has obtained access to an number of the message types that should be of greatest use to the atmospheric research community and the data are stored in a the BADC-CSV format, which is comma separated, plain text, "human" readable and self describing. The following message types are available through the BADC. As the data are held as comma separated variable the file should load automatically into programmes such as Microsoft Excel. Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research (CFARR): cloud camera imagery from Chilbolton (2001-2014)

Sky images collected by a JVC KYF55-BE digital camera over Chilbolton, Hampshire. The data were collected from 5th of July 1996 to the present.
Ozone Profiler Data, Part of the Met Office MetDB System

The ozone profiler data describes weekly measurements reported by an ozonesonde at a fixed land station at Lerwick. The dataset contains atmospheric profiles of ozone concentrations. The data are measured from the surface to up to 40 km, and transmitted from the ozonesonde via a radio link to a ground receiving station.
Druima a'Starraig C-band rain radar single polar products

Single-polar products from the Met Office's Druim a'Starraig C-band rain radar, Isle of Lewis, Scotland. Data include reflectivity (from April 2012), CPA (from October 2011) and CPAPR (from September 2012). Dual-polar products from this site are available from 2018. The radar is a C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar and data are received by the Nimrod system at 5 minute intervals.
Munduff Hill C-band rain radar single polar products

Single-polar products from the Met Office's Munduff Hill C-band rain radar, Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland. Data include CPAPR (March 2011 to October 2012) and augmented refractivity (December 2012 to June 2014) products, as well as reflectivity and Doppler products from May 2014. The radar is a C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar and data are received by the Nimrod system at 5 minute intervals.
Predannack C-band rain radar 5 km rainfall rate data

5 km resolution rain rate data from Met Office's Predannack C-band rain radar, Cornwall, England as part of the NIMROD, very short range forecasting system used by the Met Office. 5 km rain rate data are available from 2004 until present. Radar images from the C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar are received by the Nimrod system 5 minute intervals respectively.
Jersey C-band rain radar 2 km rainfall rate data

2 km resolution data from the NIMROD system data describe rain-rate observations recorded by the Jersery rain radar, Channel Islands, by NIMROD, which is a very short range forecasting system used by the Met Office. 2 km rain rate data are available from 2004 until present. Radar images from the C-band (5.3 cm wavelength) radar are received by the Nimrod system 5 minute intervals.
TEMP records collected by the Met Office MetDB System

TEMP records describes measurements reported up to four times daily by radiosondes at worldwide fixed land stations. The radiosondes measure parameters such as atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind speed and direction. The data are measured from the surface to approximately 20-30 km, and measurements are usually taken every 2 seconds. These data are provided from the Met Office as-is requiring each message part to be brought together to form each profile.
Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research (CFARR): cloud camera 2 imagery from Chilbolton, Hampshire (2016-present)

Sky images collected by a sky camera replacing the earlier JVC KYF55-BE digital camera deployed at the Chilbolton Observatory, Hampshire. These differ from the previous camera imagery by the use of a fish-eye lens to give complete sky imagery. These images have been captured from mid-2016 to the present.
Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research (CFARR) Multiple Raingauges Data, Chilbolton Site

Data were collected by Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research (CFARR) Raingauges from 2001 to the present at Chilbolton, Hampshire. The dataset contains measurements of rainfall accumulation as measured by multiple instruments.
