Fine root biomass in fertilised plots in the Central Amazon, 2017-2019

The dataset contains the weight of fine root (<2 mm) at two soil depths (0-10 cm and 10-30 cm) collected in a field site approximately 80 km north of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas, Brasil. Data were obtained by the in growth core method, in campaigns conducted every three months from 2017 to 2019 in all plots. Statement
The root biomass (g) of fine roots was obtained by the in-growth core method, which consists of a plastic mesh trap of 12 cm diameter and 30 cm depth established in holes of equal size in the soil, in five points in the central area of 30 x 30 m of each plot, with root-free soil initially. In each plot, the five ingrowth cores were bulked into a composite sample per plot, divided into depths of 0-10 cm and 10-30 cm, and roots were removed from the soil core by hand in the field over a period of 60 minutes, which was split into 15 minutes time interval. Subsequently, roots were cleaned of residual and detritus, dried at 60 °C until constant mass and weighed. Fine roots considered here are defined as <2 mm in diameter, attested by a digital caliper. The root biomass obtained from the first installation is considered to be the stock of roots. In 2017, the data were collected in August and November. In 2018, the data were collected in February, June, September and December, and in 2019, the data were collected in March, June, September and December.
