X-Ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and stable isotope data, samples from Harrington, Cumbria, UK and Clinton Creek Mine, Yukon, Canada
This dataset contains the raw X-Ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and stable isotope data, raw and processed, for samples from two different field locations, sample HR5 (Slag) from Harrington, Cumbria, UK (54.608278N, -3.570164W) and sample 22CCT1N6 (Ultramafic mine tailings) from Clinton Creek Mine, Yukon, Canada (64.457222N, -140.710833W). The data was collected in between 2023-2025. The XRD data was collected for the purpose of identifying mineralogy of the collected samples. The stable isotope data was collected for the purpose of identifying whether the carbonate minerals in the collected samples contained atmospheric carbon dioxide. The data was collected by John MacDonald, Charlotte Slaymark and Robin Hilderman (University of Glasgow) who retain the original data. Data underpins manuscript "The Widespread Potential for Rapid Formation of Anthropogenic Sedimentary Rocks" in press

- Statement
- X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) dataset - the instrument was a Malvern Panalytical Empyrean with PIXcel3D-Medipix3 1x1 detector using Cu Kα radiation (wavelength 1.541874 (Å)). Data was collected in Bragg-Brentano reflection geometry at 5-80° 2θ, with a step size 0.0131°. Stable isotope dataset - Values of δ13C and δ18O were obtained on 200 μg of sample acidified using phosphoric acid (≥1.90 SG) and heated for 1 h at 60°C on an Elementar GasBench and analysed on a continuous flow Isoprime 100 mass spectrometer. Samples were run in triplicate and the average reported as the result with 1 standard deviation. Values are calibrated to Vienna-Pee Dee Belemnite (V-PDB) using NBS-18 and IAEA-603 reference standards. A secondary standard, IA-RO22 (Iso-Analytical Ltd.) was used to validate the calibration linearity for more depleted values of δ13C and δ18O than the reference standards have.
