- Statement
- These theoretical potential 'geothermal resource' maps were developed as part of a reappraisal of the low enthalpy geothermal resources for the East Yorkshire-Lincolnshire, Cheshire, Wessex and Worcester Mezosoic basins by Rollin et al. (1995). Rollin, K. E., G. A. Kirby, and W. J. Rowley. Atlas of geothermal resources in Europe: UK revision. British Geological Survey technical report WK/95/7, Regional Geophysics Group, 1995: https://webapps.bgs.ac.uk/data/publications/publication.html?id=21735106. The 'geothermal resources' were calculated using a simple volume model of heat-in-place, based on revised models of the geology, structure and thickness of the main aquifers and of the subsurface temperature distribution. All resources were estimated from digital grids of reservoir parameters (i.e porosity, volumetric heat capacity) at data interval of 1000 m. Porosity values were determined from digital compensated neutron, formation density and sonic logs from deep wells and from laboratory measurements. The maps for each basin were merged into a single layer as part of the 2025 UK Geothermal Platform project.
