- Statement
- These isopach maps were developed as part of the assessment of the geothermal resources of Permo-Triassic basins in England, published by Rollin, K. E., G. A. Kirby, and W. J. Rowley. Atlas of geothermal resources in Europe: UK revision. British Geological Survey technical report WK/95/7, Regional Geophysics Group, 1995: https://webapps.bgs.ac.uk/data/publications/publication.html?id=21735106. Depth maps of relevant horizons taken from the Atlas of Onshore Sedimentary Basins (Whittaker et al., 1985) and revised where new data had become available since their production (e.g. detailed seismic interpretations) were used to provide and refine the main geological and structural models. The 1995 digital grids of the thickness of the main aquifers were generated using the Interactive Surface Modelling package, integrating both vertical and non-vertical faults identified in the seismic data. Grids were calculated at a 1000 m square node spacing and gridded at 200 m x 250 m for the Cheshire Basin. The maps for each basin were vectorised and merged into a single layer as part of the 2025 UK Geothermal Platform project. The maps are provided in raster format at a 100 m resolution.
