Kinetics data of spherulite growth in poly(hydroxybuterate)-based systems investigated using polarised light microscopy
This dataset contains data recording kinetics of the spherulite growth in poly(hydroxybuterate)-based systems with various amounts of copolymer and additive (plasticiser and/or filler). The experiments were performed using polarised light microscopy. The experiments were conducted at the University of Strathclyde. Full details about this nonGeographicDataset can be found at

- Statement
- The data was collected at the University of Strathclyde using a DinoLite polarised microscope connected to a PC, with an additional polariser in the setup and a heated stage. The powdered sample was placed between two round coverslips cleaned with ethanol, heated up at 180 °C and placed at a heated stage equilibrated at a given temperature. The data was collected as movies. Then, images of every given timeframe dependent on the temperature (e.g. 10 s) were obtained using a VLS media player. The images were then analysed using the ImageJ programme, with the radius of the spherulite at a particular time recorded. This data obtained spherulite growth rate as tangent at radius vs time graph. To ensure data reliability, the radius was consistently measured using the same angle, starting from the centre of the spherulite and extending towards its edges, while adjusting for the best possible contrast during the measurements.
