  • We present extensive new bathymetric compilation over Anvers-Hugo Trough, Perrier Trough and Palmer Deep, here defined by the following bounding box: 66.15 to 64.0 W, 65.25 to 63.6 S. This bathymetry grid was compiled from a variety of different data sources including multibeam swath bathymetry collected from scientific cruises undertaken by British Antarctic Survey (BAS), United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, or acquired during RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer, HMS Protector and RV Maurice Ewing expeditions. The data is available as a 30m resolution grid either in a NetCDF format using WGS84 coordinate system (EPSG: 4326) or in an ESRI ASCII interchange raster format in standard Antarctic polar stereographic coordinates (EPSG 3031). The grid have been created using the MB-system mbgrid program. For further information regarding the creation of this dataset please refer to the associated article and the supplementary information.

  • We present a new bathymetric compilation around the South Orkney Islands here defined by the following bounding box: 47 to 37 W, 63 to 59 S. This bathymetry grid was compiled from a variety of multibeam swath bathymetry data acquired during 46 different cruises (see lineage). The data is available as a grid of approximately 100 m resolution in a GMT-compatible (2-D) NetCDF format using geographic coordinates on the WGS84 datum. Three versions of the grid are available: the first one shows only swath bathymetry data while the second and third have been merged with the global compilations from the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO), GEBCO_2014 (version 20150318) and GEBCO_2019, respectively. Quick views are also available in the corresponding folder. Funding was provided by the NERC grants NE/K012843/1 and NE/N018095/1 as well as national capability

  • The dataset consists of Ar-Ar isotope dating, field data, and selected geochemical analysis of igneous dykes and sills collected from Dronning Maud Land during the 2000-2001 field season. The aim was to measure ages of volcanism during flood basalt events in Dronning Maud Land associated with the breakup of Gondwana. The style and volume of magmatism varies between margins from large volume flood basalts such as the Parana or Deccan provinces to less volumetric margins such as the southern part of the South Atlantic. This case (Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering) studentship was intended to provide support to study the evolution of the break-up of Africa and East Antarctica which occurred in the early Jurassic. An extended period of magmatism has been suggested for this margin associated with complex extensional tectonics. A combined geochronological / geochemical approach was used to understand the evolution of the crust and sub-continental lithospheric mantle during the break-up of one central portion of the Gondwana super continent.
