This dataset contains measurements from eleven traits on 285 plants that were grown in a randomised block designed common garden trial at the UKCEH Edinburgh. Seedlings were grown from seed during 2015-2018, and the traits were measured in December 2020. The trees are from sixteen different populations across the UK. Variables measured include: stem length, stem diameter, stem angle, main stem branches, needle length and width, extension, number of stems, number of internodes, length of internodes, and total spread. This data was gathered as part of a project on juniper conservation genetics that also includes an analysis of the population genetics of UK junipers. The main goal of the project is to evaluate the standing genetic variation of populations using both quantitative and population genetic analyses. This dataset contains information on the fertility and physical characteristics of kākāpō (Strigops habroptilus) eggs laid on Anchor and Whenua Hou islands, New Zealand during the 2018/19 breeding season. Of the 252 total eggs laid, 129 failed to develop; undeveloped eggs were dissected, fixed in formalin, and then inspected using fluorescence microscopy at the University of Sheffield UK. For all eggs, data are provided on mother and clutch of origin, developmental stage reached, and maternal mating behaviour. For dissected undeveloped eggs, additional data include fertilisation status, numbers of sperm visible on the perivitelline layer, egg size and weight, dry eggshell weight, and yolk and albumen weights. Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/cd0e9bc1-bd57-44ae-9fec-2f6239e8726d

This record comprises nine datasets related to the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) Marine Protected Area (MPA) review undertaken in 2019. The SGSSI MPA is one of the world's largest MPAs, and the 2019 review led to a significant extension of the MPA area to cover all of the SGSSI Maritime Zone totalling 1.24 million km2. Details of the new measures can be found within the legislation (SG Gazette No 1. Dated 31 January 2019: https://laws.gov.gs/gazettes), and the datasets here relate directly to these measures. The following datasets are published here, for which further information can be found in the legislation linked above: -The boundary of the SGSSI MPA/Maritime Zone -No Take Zones for South Georgia -No Take Zones for Clerke and Shag rocks -No Take Zones for South Sandwich Islands -No Take Zones for South Sandwich Islands trench -No Take Zones for South of 60degS -Benthic Closed Areas -Pelagic Closed Areas -Heavy Fuel Oil Prohibition line The datasets are available as shapefiles. This work has been funded directly by the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

Primary forest cover and forest cover loss in Wallacea for the years 2000-2018 to train a deforestation model and produce maps of projected probability of deforestation until 2053. Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/c7148c20-c6b3-43e1-9f99-b6e38e4dfdaf

This record comprises six datasets related to the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) Marine Protected Area (MPA) review undertaken in 2025. The SGSSI MPA is one of the world's largest MPAs, and in April 2025 the area of the MPA in which fishing is prohibited was greatly expanded following the second five-year MPA review in 2024. Details of the new measures can be found within the latest legislation (SGSSI Gazette No 2 dated 22 April 2025: https://laws.gov.gs/gazettes/), and the datasets here relate directly to the areas and boundaries referred to in these measures. These datasets are: -The boundary of the SGSSI MPA -No Take Zones -General Benthic Closed Areas -Research Benthic Closed Areas -Pelagic Closed Areas -General Fisheries Zones The datasets are available as shapefiles. This work has been funded directly by the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands with additional financial support from the UK Government Blue Belt programme.

These data describe the rates of filled, viable and germinating seeds from over 60 maternal juniper trees from across the UK. 12 populations from the Scottish Highlands to Southern English Downs were sampled in Fall 2023. Four different methods of seed viability testing were applied, and germination was monitored for over a year in response to nine different combinations of pretreatments and stratifications. Reproducible analyses and visualizations from an associated study are provided with an R project. This trial was conducted to determine the optimal treatment for juniper stratification and to quantify the variability in seedlot quality/viability among populations. This dataset contains information about the locations and local environmental conditions of 123 Malaise trap samples collected in November-December 2021 in the 908 km2 forested ‘leakage belt’ buffer zone of the Gola Rainforest National Park (GRNP) in eastern Sierra Leone, where cocoa, a driver of deforestation, is the main cash crop. Each trap was set out for five days with >99% ethanol. The samples were transported from Sierra Leone to the UK, where they have been sent for metabarcoding for arthropods (using Leray2 PCR primers). The work was supported by the Natural Environment Research Council (Grant NE/S014063/1). Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/161315e4-71c1-481d-906c-149ab2e9705c
