  • IDA272269 Methane and CO2 gas concentrations and stable isotope analyses of cutting samples from GGA05 and GGA08 boreholes of the Glasgow UKGEOS facility. Cutting samples were collected approximately every 3m depth in gas tight isojars by the BGS. Geochemical gas analyses was carried out at the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC) and consisted of bulk concentration analysis using gas chromatography; followed by δ13CCH4, δ13CCO2, and δD stable isotope analyses on a methane combustion line (full methods attached). This data was collected to investigate the variability of gas fingerprints with depth within the Glasgow coal mine workings, and unmined Carboniferous coal measures. Samples and data are derived from the UK Geoenergy Observatories Programme funded by the UKRI Natural Environment Research Council and delivered by the British Geological Survey.

  • A core scanning dataset from the BHA-101 drill core that was drilled onshore at the Ince Marshes site near the village of Elton, Cheshire, UK as part of the UK Geoenergy Observatories (UKGEOS) Cheshire ground investigation funded by UKRI/NERC. This core scanning dataset pack contains high-resolution optical and radiographic images, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and physical property downcore point measurements on core from 71.12 m to 121.1 m (Sherwood Sandstone Group) obtained at the Core Scanning Facility (CSF) at the British Geological Survey (BGS).

  • The data reported include, percent total organic carbon (%TOC), bulk rock, solvent extracted and water extracted Rock Eval Pyrolysis (Rock Eval) and Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (EA-irMS), optical analyses of kerogen concentrates of bulk rock samples (Kerogen microscopy), and Liquid Chromatography – Organic Carbon Detection (LC-OCD) of sample leachates. The samples were collected by UKGEOS (UK Geoenergy Observatories) Glasgow and provided for laboratory analyses to HWU Edinburgh. Samples from core well GGA01, GGA03r, GGA04, GGA05, GGA06r, GGA07, GGA08, GGA09r, GGB04, GGB05.

  • We collect data from sensors located throughout the UK and beyond capturing information on properties such as groundwater temperature and levels, barometric air pressure and motion sensors. We have recently started collecting information related to the energy efficiency of buildings and have developed techniques for incorporating data from sensors operated by other institutions. Some of the data we collect is available through the sensor API and sensor dashboard which provides easy access to the API data.

  • The borehole information pack from borehole GGA06r, site 02 of the UK Geoenergy Observatories (UKGEOS) Glasgow facility. This release from the British Geological Survey (BGS) contains BGS and Drillers’ logs, a listing of archived rock chips and a descriptive report. The environmental baseline characterisation and monitoring borehole was drilled between 3rd July and 2nd August 2019 (start of drilling to casing installation date) to 16 m drilled depth. The cased borehole was hydrogeologically tested in January 2020. Rock chip samples were taken during the drilling process and have been archived at the National Geological Repository at BGS Keyworth. Further details can be found in the accompanying report http://nora.nerc.ac.uk/id/eprint/528079 DOI https://dx.doi.org/10.5285/ccb1aabe-6062-4cb7-9731-535229316246

  • This data pack contains processed data from straddle packer pump testing of TH0424 ground investigation borehole at the UK Geonergy Observatory at Thornton Science Park, Cheshire during October 2022. TH0424 (BGS borehole reference NG47NW249) is located at NGR Easting: 344965 Northing: 375857 and drilled to a depth of 101.14 mbgl. Full meta data for the test borehole is included in the borehole information pack (https://doi.org/10.5285/badff3b9-8bc8-4897-b324-7f4653fdd214). This dataset is accompanied by BGS open report OR/23/037 (https://nora.nerc.ac.uk/id/eprint/536445/) which provides context, description, and analysis of the data. Data sets included in this data pack: 1) Groundwater level data as measured by downhole transducers in the isolated packer intervals and outside packer intervals for 20 pump tests at various target depths/zones. Level data includes raw level readings as well as barometric pressure readings at surface and barometrically compensated level data. 2) Pump flow rate data during pump tests 3) Event logs including timestamped events such as packer inflation, pump deployment etc. 4) Hydrochemical data from on-site parameter measurements and analysed groundwater samples collected during constant rate pump tests. 5) Coring/drilling log of TH0410 with timestamped coring progress during the pump testing period. This dataset is included as activities at TH0410 during testing are thought to have significantly impacted data quality. 6) Logged abstraction events from the Thornton Science Park abstraction borehole (Borehole reference SJ47NW25, NGR 344950 375500, ~350m south of TH0424) by means of a pressure transducer attached to the borehole headworks. This dataset is included as abstraction of the TSP borehole is known to drawdown groundwater levels in TH0424.
