Englacial temperature time-series from the northern sector of Larsen C Ice Shelf, Antarctica
The datasets are temperature time series from strings of thermistors, each located at a discrete depth within one of six boreholes drilled to a depth of ~100 m in the northern sector of Larsen C Ice Shelf, Antarctica. Supporting borehole information is presented by Ashmore and others (2017).
These data are part of the NERC-funded MIDAS ('Impact of surface melt and ponding on ice shelf dynamics and stability') research project, with grant references NE/L006707/1 and NE/L005409/1. Associated (near-surface) borehole temperature records, OPTV logs and density records are also available, as are other MIDAS datasets.

Methodology:
The datasets are temperature time series recorded be several thermistors mounted on strings installed into six boreholes drilled to ~100 m depth along flow-lines extending from Cabinet Inlet and Whirlwind Inlet on Larsen C Ice Shelf, Antarctica, in austral summers of 2014 and 2015. These data are presented in whole or in part in Hubbard and others (2016).
Boreholes were located as follows:
Borehole; Lat., Lon. (decimal degrees); Coordinate date
CI_0; -66.403, -63.376; Nov 2014
CI_22; -66.588, -63.212; Nov 2015
Cl_60; -66.886, -62.843; Nov 2014
CI_120; -67.000, -61.486; Nov 2015
WI_0; -67.444, -64.953; Dec 2015
WI_70; -67.500, -63.336; Dec 2015
Data collection:
Temperatures were acquired using Fenwal UNI-CURVE negative temperature coefficient thermistors controlled by Campbell Scientific CR1000 data loggers from the ice shelf surface. Details are provided by Doyle and others (2018).
Data quality:
Detailed methodology, including accuracy estimation, is presented by Doyle and others (2018). The data has a resolution of ~0.05 °C. Each thermistor typically logged temperature every 30 minutes for the time periods evident from each data record.
