Berries were stored at 4 deg C as necessary to keep them from moulding until they could be processed. Dry seeds were also stored at 4 deg C until they were sown for the germination trial. The germination trial was conducted at the greenhouse at the UKCEH Edinburgh, and seeds were sown in 1:1 mixture of sand and compost. Seed trays were subjected to a warm stratification treatment (7-14 deg C) for four months, then a cool stratification (4 deg C) for 8 months before being placed in the glasshouse at the UKCEH, Edinburgh.
