Chronological sedimentological data (radiocarbon 14C) for cores LC7 and LC12 sediment record from Blaso, a large, epishelf lake in NW Greenland collected July-August 2017
The dataset comprises of analyses of two sediment cores (LC12 and LC7), extracted from Blaso, a large epishelf lake on the margin of 79 degrees N Ice Shelf, NW Greenland in July-August 2017. The data are used to constrain ice shelf dynamics over the last 8500 calibrated years before present (cal. years B.P., where present is A.D. 1950). Data for the LC7 and LC12 sediment records consist of radiocarbon (14C) chronology data.
Overlapping 2 m-long sediment cores were recovered with a UWITEC KOL 'Kolbenlot percussion piston corer to a total sediment depth of 3.74 m (LC7) and 5.24 m (LC12). Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) was used for radiocarbon (14C) dating.
Core LC7: 87 m water depth; 79.589 degrees N, 22.494 degrees E.
Core LC12: 90 m water depth; 79.5948 degrees N, 22.44233 degrees E.

Methodology:
Overlapping 2 m-long sediment cores were recovered with a UWITEC KOL 'Kolbenlot' percussion piston corer to a total sediment depth of 3.74 m (LC7) and 5.24 m (LC12) in Blaso (LC7: 79°35.340N, 22°29.640E, 87m; LC12: 79°35.688N, 22°26.540E, 90m).
The chronology for LC7 and LC12 was established using accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon (14C) dating. Where possible, calcareous microfossils (mixed benthic foraminifera) were dated, and bulk (acid insoluble organic matter) sediment was only dated in the absence of microfossils. Cores were also inspected for other datable macrofossils (mosses, algae, shells) but were found to be barren. 14C dating of samples from the lake cores, together with macro-fossils (molluscs, gastropods) from the raised marine deposits, was undertaken at the NERC Radiocarbon Laboratory (Environment) in East Kilbride, UK (SUERC-), the Keck-CCAMS, University of California, Irvine, US (UCIAMS-) and Beta Analytic, Miami, US (BETA-). Radiocarbon ages were calibrated to calendar years before present (cal. years BP, where present is A.D. 1950) using the calibration software CALIB 8.1.0 (Stuiver et al., 2021), the Marine13 calibration curve (Reimer et al., 2013), and a marine reservoir of 550 years (delta R = 150) (Morner and Funder, 1990). The Marine20 calibration was not used owing to its unsuitability for sea-ice dominated polar environments (Heaton et al., 2020).
