Physical and chemical properties of wildfire ash collected from different ecosystems and burn severities across the globe, 2003-2021
[This dataset is embargoed until August 1, 2024]. This dataset describes the chemical and physical properties of wildfire ash collected following wildland fires in different ecosystems and burn severity conditions across the globe. For the chemical properties, ash was collected from sampling sites across eight countries (Australia, Canada, South Africa, US, UK, The Netherlands, Spain and Austria). For the physical properties, ash was collected from four locations in Tenerife (Spain), Victoria (Australia), Manchester (UK) and Idaho (US). Full details about this dataset can be found at

- Statement
- Ash was collected in the field between 2003 & 2021, and brought to the laboratory where chemical and physical properties were analysed. The total concentration of selected elements was determined following established protocols after microwave-assisted digestion. The concentration of the selected soluble chemical species was determined after a leachate experiments (see supporting documents for further information). Ash physical properties were determined following established methods (see supporting documents for further information). No data analysis was conducted at this stage.
