Dark ice dynamics of the south-west Greenland Ice Sheet, 2000-2016
Metrics of dark ice extent and duration, and snowline retreat estimates, for the south-west ablation zone of the Greenland Ice Sheet, derived from MODIS satellite imagery. These metrics are provided on a ~613 m grid at annual resolution and cover the melt season, defined as June-July-August each year. All scripts used to generate the metrics are also provided, as well as the scripts which generate the plots found in the referenced publication.
Funding was provided by the NERC grant NE/M021025/1.

Methodology:
This study used MOD09GA C006 and MOD10A1 C006 data from MODIS sinusoidal grid locations h16v02 and h15v02. These data were downloaded using the tools in https://github.com/atedstone/get_modis.
Data were stitched and regridded using stitch_warp_modis_l2.py then modisgtiff2nc.py in https://github.com/atedstone/modis_tools. The template file that was used with these tools is provided in this data collection (reproject.template).
This processing chain generated daily mosaics of MODIS data that were saved to NetCDF files (not provided here) that were in turn used as inputs to the analysis scripts in https://github.com/atedstone/Tedstone2017_TheCryosphere_Scripts.
Data collection:
Instrumentation: GDAL, Python with associated libraries as detailed in script import calls.
Data quality:
See publication, scripts and metadata embedded in the datasets.
