- Statement
- The NERC funded RED FIRE project conducted studies in the Red Forest (located within the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, Ukraine) over the course of a year following a severe fire in 2016 when approximately 80% of the forest was burnt. The study involved placing 21 motion activated digital trap cameras across the Red Forest from September 2016 to September 2017. Images and the image and camera metadata were downloaded by Chornobyl Center from each camera memory card on three occasions over the study period. The images (and some videos) and image metadata was then supplied to UKCEH by Chornobyl Center as .jpeg. .avi and MSExcel files respectively. Image catalogues were then populated by UKCEH using this information. For quality control purposes this data was then compared to a second set of data entered into a second catalogue by staff at the Chornobyl Centre for Nuclear Safety; any disparities were investigated and amended where necessary.Site descriptions and camera information was supplied to UKCEH by Chornobyl Center as MSExcel files. All data were supplied to EIDC as .csv; .jpeg or .avi files.
