Data from a field-based investigation into the spatio-temporal variability of abiotic and biotic controls on peatland carbon cycling. Data was collected between February 2011 and April 2013, across an area of blanket bog peatland at Black Law Wind Farm, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Plant-soil properties data includes total carbon content, total nitrogen content and carbon to nitrogen ratio of vegetation, litter and peat, carbon and nitrogen stock for litter and peat, bulk density, soil moisture content, pH and soil microbial community composition of peat (Phospholipid Fatty Acids). Peatland carbon cycling data includes measures of litter decomposition, dissolved organic carbon concentration, methane fluxes, net ecosystem exchange, photosynthesis and ecosystem respiration. Physical parameters measured includes below ground temperature from April 2011 to June 2012 and soil moisture content from May 2011 to April 2013. Commission Regulation (EU) No 1089/2010 of 23 November 2010 implementing Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards interoperability of spatial data sets and services
2010-12-08
Data from a field-based investigation into the spatio-temporal variability of abiotic and biotic controls on peatland carbon cycling. Data was collected between February 2011 and April 2013, across an area of blanket bog peatland at Black Law Wind Farm, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Plant-soil properties data includes total carbon (C) content (%), total nitrogen (N) content (%) and C:N of vegetation, litter and peat, C stock and N stock for litter and peat (g (C or N) m-2, to depth of litter layer or surface 15 cm of peat), and bulk density (g m-3), soil moisture content (%), pH and soil microbial community composition of peat (Phospholipid Fatty Acids (PLFAs) expressed as µg g-1 dry weight of soil). Peatland carbon cycling data includes measures of litter decomposition (expressed as % initial litter mass remaining), dissolved organic carbon concentration ([DOC]) (mg/l), methane (CH4) fluxes, net ecosystem exchange (NEE), photosynthesis and ecosystem respiration (CO2-C m-2 hr-1). Physical parameters measured included belowground temperature (to a depth of 5 cm) from April 2011 to June 2012 and soil moisture content from May 2011 to April 2013.
