Plant species composition of a meadow sward exposed to grazing treatments at Somerford Mead, Oxford 1987-2014

This dataset includes a description of the flora on Somerford Mead, Oxford for the period 1987 to 2014. During the period 1991 to 2014, a grazing experiment was conducted on the meadow, in which individual plots were either grazed by sheep, grazed by cattle or left ungrazed following the annual hay cut. The data consist of list of all plant species found at sample locations within each plot together with an estimate of abundance. Statement
The data were gathered on site by Dr Alison McDonald herself or by students (often Dutch) under her supervision during the period 1987 to 2013. In 2014, staff from UKCEH undertook the survey under the direction of J. Owen Mountford. Data were recorded in the field onto pre-prepared forms listing all species previously found on the site. The data were input into an Excel spreadsheet by Dr Melanie Stone on behalf of the Floodplain Meadows Partnership (FMP) in 2021. This work was funded by the Ecological Continuity Trust. The data were subsequently converted to individual text files (.csv) by Prof David Gowing (FMP). The taxonomic accuracy of the names and the species counts were checked by Dr Stone on inputting and comments added where corrections made.
