Electron microprobe analysis of minerals from the Dong Pao carbonatite laterite, Vietnam (2024 - 2025)
This dataset contains electron microprobe analyses of minerals from the Dong Pao carbonatite laterite in Vietnam, generated as part of the SCREED: Supergene enrichment of carbonatite-hosted rare earth element (REE) deposits project. Full sample locations and descriptions are available at
https://doi.org/10.5285/83819b57-4754-4da3-9336-955e817573ed.
Samples were analysed between September 2024 and October 2025, to determine changes in mineral chemistry during weathering. The analysis were carried out by teams from the School of Applied Sciences, University of Brighton and Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter

- Statement
- Electron probe micro analyses (EPMA) were undertaken at Camborne School of Mines using a JEOL JXA 8200 instrument. The operating conditions were 15 kv, 15 nA, 1 µm spot for Si, Fe, Ca, Al, Mn, F, Cl, P, S, Na, K, Ti, Sr, Ba, Nb, Zr, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Y and Ta; 15 kv, 100 nA, 1 µm spot for Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, U, Th and Pb. X-ray counts were converted to oxide concentrations using the inbuilt Jeol φρz correction programme. Astimex monazite grains were used as secondary standards, with results within 2% of published data. Samples were analysed either a polished thin sections, or as polished resin mounts (for disaggregated soil materials).
