- Statement
- The UK Minerals Yearbook is the continuation of a series of publications that form the UK’s mining record, which contain data from the 1850s to present. Summary of stages in the BGS method for producing the UK Minerals Yearbook For 2015 onwards BGS has attempted to obtain data from alternative sources to fill as many of the data gaps as possible. These sources include the Mineral Products Association and the British Ceramics Association amongst others. Commodity specific tables that set out the UK’s position for each particular commodity in turn. They include UK production figures, where there is production, and also UK trade statistics (imports and exports). Occasionally, these tables also include figures for consumption and apparent consumption. All of the data required for the UK Summary Tables are entered into the World Mineral Statistics database. For some commodities it is necessary to change the “tables” filter on the database front end to “UK book” instead of “World book” in order to view and enter the data. Most of our UK trade data is obtained from UK Trade Info website which is data collected by the HM Revenue and Customs.
