Multi-season Himalayan spring, stream and rainwater geochemical data set from the Melamchi Valley catchment, Nepal (2022 - 2025)

This dataset contains geochemical data from springs, streams and monsoonal rainwater samples, collected from the Melamchi Valley catchment, Nepal, between 2022 and 2025. The data includes analysis of major ions, stable water isotopes and Sr, Li, Si and C isotopes to investigate chemical weathering along mountain flow paths. Filtered water samples were collected across the Melamchi Valley catchment, with springs grouped into sub-linear transects. Additional time series samples span 2023 to 2025 at bi/weekly sampling at 5 sites.

Statement
Water samples were collected directly from springs and rivers, and in rain collectors. Samples were filtered through 0.2micron PES membranes, with cation samples acidified to pH 2 while anion samples were left unacidified. HCO3- was determined by gran titration in the field. Cations were determined using an Agilent 5100 and anions using a Dionex ICS-5000. Both have an analytical uncertainty of 5%. Some samples were run for minor cations on an iCap-Q ICP-MS with an uncertainty of 10%. Stable water isotopes were measured on a Picarro L2140-i with uncertainties of 0.1,0.15 and 1.2‰ for δ17O, δ18O and δ2H respectively. δ13C was measured on a MAT253 mass spectrometer with uncertainty 0.2‰. Isotopes and uncertainties measured on a Neptune ICP-MS include 87Sr/86Sr (70ppm), δ88Sr (0.03‰), δ30Si (0.06‰) and δ7Li (1‰) Additional 87Sr/86Sr isotopes were made on a TIMS VG Sector 54 (70ppm).
