Source data on testudinate distribution in time and space for the Mesozoic-Paleogene was obtained from the published literature (mid-nineteenth century to date); These data were checked for accuracy, transcribed and uploaded to an online publicly accessible database by project members (http://fossilworks.org/ and https://paleobiodb.org/ ); Data files were downloaded in Excel/csv format from this online dataset for analysis.
