- Statement
- Efflux data were generated using a infrared gas analyser in closed system mode which measures the linear increase in CO2 concentrations over a 2 minute period. Root ingrowth was measured by inserting root-free peat in a container with 2mm mesh openings into the ground in June and extracting in September, the in-grown roots were picked out, washed, dried and weighed. Hyphae ingrowth was measured by inserting a bag with 35um openings filled with washed sand into the ground over the same period of time as the root bags. Sand was extracted from bags and immediately freeze dried. The sand was then sonicated and the hyphae were extracted and ingrowth carbon was compared with lab black controls.
