Water chemistry data from Lake Akrotiri, Cyprus, and its main inputs, July 2019 - November 2020
Data comprise water chemistry (analysis included phosphorus and nitrogen species, dissolved reactive silicon, suspended solids, chlorophyll, fluoride, chloride, and sulphate) in water samples taken at Lake Akrotiri, Cyprus, and its main inputs between July 2019 and November 2020. The eight monitoring sites included marginal samples from around the lake and also samples of the input canals that drained the surrounding marshes and a drainage pipe. - Statement
- In July 2019 the field measurements were taken by UKCEH using a MYRON L Ultrameter II and a YSI DSS pro. Subsequent samples were taken by staff of the Joint Services Health Unit (JSHU) using a YSI DSS pro. Field samples were filtered immediately through a 0.45 μm Whatman WCN membrane filter. These were analysed in laboratories at UKCEH Wallingford for phosphorus and nitrogen species, dissolved reactive silicon, suspended solids, chlorophyll, fluoride, chloride, and sulphate. Some values are missing due to equipment failure, the different types of probe used to take field samples or because a sample could not be taken due to access. The samples were taken by experienced field surveyors and the data was checked for anomalous values. All analysis (with the exception of suspended solids) was carried out alongside reference Aquacheck QC standards (LGC Standards, Teddington, UK). The samples were taken as part of the Darwin Initiative Plus project, which seeks to monitor and understand drivers of change in the Akrotiri wetlands.
