Plant cover in a Floridian foredune following hurricane Irma in 2017: effect of experimental wrack removal

The dataset contains plant cover by species sampled on three occasions using a grid of 0.5 x 0.5m quadrats within experimental field plots. The percentage cover of each species was estimated visually within each of the nine, 0.5 x 0.5m quadrats in each plot. The total percentage cover was the sum of all individual species’ covers within a quadrat. This study was conducted in the foredune area of Anastasia State Park, located south of St Augustine in Florida, USA between March 2018 to January 2019 Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/0c93703a-c185-4dd9-b8d7-8d3698535245

Statement
In March 2018, five experimental blocks were established in the storm wrack zone within 1km. In each block, three 10 x 10m experimental plots were marked and randomly assigned to ‘control’ procedural control’ or ‘removal’. The control was left undisturbed, the procedural control was treated with wrack removal and replacement, and the removal was treated with wrack removal without replacement. The response of the plant community was monitored immediately after the experiment was set-up (March 2018), and subsequently in August 2018, October 2018, and finally in January 2019. Distributions of all variables screened for unusual values and cross checked against field notebooks.
